SKYE HATTEN PHOTOGRAPHY: {just a little miracle…}

It always seems that my most profound thoughts come in my head around mid-day and when I sit down at night and attempt to recall them to reiterate here, it’s useless.  They are completely gone.  And yes, I do have profound thoughts.  I could likely save the world at around 2:00 in the afternoon with all of my highly important and intellectual thoughts.  I mean at one point today while listening to Pandora radio (Station = Mariah Carey – Holiday), I thought to myself, “Whitney Houston really is an amazing singer.”  Following this thought, I couldn’t help but remember how at one point in my young life, I had dreams and aspirations of being not Whitney Houston, but that lady who sang pretty much the entire “Good Vibrations” song from the 90’s (you remember folks, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch).  Heck, I would have just been happy being any heavier, African-American woman with one of those strong R&B voices.  A girl can dream I suppose.  I was always beckoned to reality however when dampening the reed to my tenor saxophone and being called to the pep band line of duty.  Let’s just say, I wasn’t meant to sing.  I have to say though that I love that Little Miss sings a bit like I do.  You know, if you don’t know the words, just sing some fabricated and made up alternative.  Real words?  Who needs them?

So, again, here I am, far too late in the evening with my red eyes hovering over two heaping bags beneath them attempting to say something simply amazing.  I may have to come back to that.

In the mean time, let me share a little story.

Meet Rachel.  I have to say that she is rather easy to describe really.  She’s sweet and genuine and caring and thoughtful.  She giggles at anything embarrassing and cries when she laughs hard.  She is a story teller, master baker and cake decorator, and an amazing and beautiful mother, wife, daughter, and sister.  Fortunately for me, I get to call her my best friend.  Needless to say, she’s most deserving of all the good fortunes she may stumble upon.  We met nearly 8 years ago and coincidentally, we were each pregnant with our first babies not too long after.  In recent years, it became a bit bleak for them of having a second child as their first was born by way of IVF and this wasn’t a process that treated her very well.  I know she was saddened by this yet she had finally reached a point of acceptance and a foot forward to move on down the road as a family of three.  Crazily, shortly after, she felt out of sorts and exhausted and those peculiar hip and leg pains from only that time she was once pregnant had made their way back.  Obviously KNOWING that it was impossible for her to be pregnant, it took some convincing from her crazy husband to maybe look into the possibility.  As you may have guessed, someone had some good news.  And even better, she was past her first trimester.  Miracles obviously do indeed happen to good people and their little miracle arrived last week.

So, Ms. Rachel, here we are, both of us – moms with two kiddos.  You deserve the very, very best and I can’t possibly be happier for you.  Although our time together has certainly became much less in recent years, please know that you are my dearest friend and I can’t thank you enough for the unconditional friendship, the extreme support, and just being “you” each and every time we gather.  You’re one in a million and I’m glad I found you.

Let me now introduce you to Miss C.  It’s funny because I feel like she didn’t just land in her own family but that she also landed in ours.  Can’t wait to watch her grow and also can’t wait to show more images from our session together (big brother pics coming soon!).  For now, just a few. 😉
